Every year, Bikes Not Bombs hosts a Bike-A-Thon to raise funds for their organization. I photographed the celebration of their 37th annual Bike-A-Thon in Jamaica Plain, after riders completed either the 10, 35, 50, 63, or 105 mile route. The celebration was filled with live music, dancing, food, and a cardboard slide. That year, riders and event supporters raised over $195,000.

Bikes Not Bombs’s mission is to use the bicycle as a vehicle for social change to achieve economic mobility for other Black and other marginalized people in Boston and the Global South. They do so through reclamation of bikes for use in unique local and international social justice projects, creating opportunities for youth and adults to gain hands-on bike repair skills, an creating meaningful jobs and professional mentorship for Boston teenagers and young adults.
