In the summer of 2023, I attended photographer Jess Dugan's Intimate Portrait workshop at the Anderson Ranch Center in Snowmass, Colorado.
During this time, I was two years out of college and itching to be creative again. I chose Jess' workshop in particular because I admired their work, and because the combination of both intimacy and portraiture appealed to my fascination with unearthing emotions through photography.
My classmates came from several different states and all walks of life. We got to know each other over the course of the week and photographed each other daily.
I had been wanting to experiment with handwritten notes. They capture something unique about the person and unique to that moment in time.
I asked each person to write down what they were thinking during the moment the photograph was taken.
