Some 30,000 runners passed through Brookline on a beautiful sunny Marathon Monday.

By the time he got to Washington Square, Sisay Lemma of Ethiopia had opened up a sizable lead over the rest of the men’s field, enroute to his first ever Boston Marathon victory. Likewise for Marcel Hug, who sailed through Brookline to take his seventh men’s wheelchair marathon win in Boston, despite a crash earlier in the race.

The women’s races were closer: Hellen Obiri was part of a pack of eight runners making the turn onto Beacon Street, but separated herself enough to win. Likewise for Eden Rainbow-Cooper, who won the women’s wheelchair event.
