City Splash is an annual community event hosted by Charles River Conservancy, wherein participants get a rare chance to jump into the Charles River for a 25-minute swim.
The Charles River is one of the cleanest rivers in the United States. In 1995, the Environmental Protection Agency made it a goal to make the Charles River fishable and swimmable through the Clean Charles River Initiative.
“Urban river swimming is an exciting and increasingly relevant vision that resonates with many people today. As we will soon see swimmers in the Seine River (for the first time in a century!) at the Paris 2024 Olympics, it’s clear that clean and accessible urban rivers are a priority worldwide,” says CRC Executive Director Laura Jasinski.
